• Where lessons take place?

  All lessons are held online through Google Meet.

• How many lessons per tutor?

  Tutors can teach 1 to 5 lessons per week, depending on availability.

• How much time do I need to commit?

  Tutors are expected to commit to one full semester.

• Do I have to create lessons myself?

  UCanSpeak provides weekly topics, structure, and lesson ideas. Tutors are encouraged to bring creativity by personalizing activities and adapting lessons for their group — we love creativity and individuality!

• What support do tutors get during lessons?

  Each session is supervised by a manager. Tutors also have access to ongoing support, feedback, teaching resources, and assistance whenever needed.

• What if I can not attend a lesson?

  We ask tutors to follow a 48-hour notice policy when possible and arrange a substitute from within the tutor team. We aim to keep absences minimal to ensure consistency for students, but we understand that unexpected situations happen and will always try to support both tutors and students.

• Can I receive school volunteer/participation hours?

  Yes! We can sign off on eligible volunteer, community service, or club hours required by your school. We count 1 full hour for each teaching session (45 minutes of teaching + 15 minutes of contribution time). In addition, we also sign off 1 hour per week for lesson preparation. Your training session hours are also included and can be counted toward your total hours.

• When can I expect to receive an interview email?

  Interviews are typically sent out approximately one month before the start of a new semester.

• What do we learn during training?

  During training, tutors learn how UCanSpeak operates, how the team communicates, and how lessons are structured. They also work with a psychologist who explains how war and stress can affect children’s learning, attention, and communication. This helps tutors understand how to approach students with awareness, empathy, and support. In addition, tutors receive guidance on lesson planning methodology to help them create engaging and age-appropriate activities and presentations.

• When and where does training take place?

  Training is held online via Zoom, approximately two weeks before the start of each semester.

• Are there any safety precautions?

  Yes. We take safety seriously. • No personal information is shared outside the organization • All tutors, students, and parents follow a Code of Conduct • All tutors under 18 must submit parental consent before starting
